Bringing YOUR VOICE to City Hall
Meet Mimi May
Mimi May is running for Lake Worth Beach City Commission in District 3. Originally from Buffalo, NY, she has lived in Florida since 2007 and Lake Worth Beach for the past seven years. Mimi lives in College Park with her husband, Tom, and their three rescue dogs, Ella, Charlie, and Barkley.
It didn’t take long for Mimi to become involved in the community. Soon after unpacking, she helped to revive a waning College Park Neighborhood Association. Over the years, she has led her neighborhood in the capacity of treasurer, then vice president, and ultimately as president of College Park.
Being the neighborhood association president qualified her to become involved in the Lake Worth Neighborhood Association Presidents’ Council (NAPC). The NAPC hosts events throughout the City of Lake Worth Beach, including the Great American Raft Race on July 4th and the Great Taste of Lake Worth Beach, which kicks off the annual Lake Worth Street Painting Festival.
Mimi has been a teacher for the past 26 years and is currently serving as the Chair of the Math department at Bak Middle School of the Arts. Mimi was also elected by her peers to be the inaugural chairperson of the Lake Worth Beach Education Task Force. Being an active participant in her community is of utmost importance to Mimi, and bringing her professional experience to her local community was an honor.
Mimi started to attend City Commission meetings regularly and became interested in serving as a Commissioner when she witnessed how the service of one person could have such a profound effect on the city as a whole. The direction that the current commission is taking the city is not, in Mimi’s opinion, the direction that will result in a prosperous Lake Worth Beach. Quality of life is at stake, and there is no time to waste! Many residents of Lake Worth Beach feel unheard and unrepresented, and Mimi’s mission is to bring their voices – YOUR VOICES – to City Hall.
